Happy Hour - Shadows Restaurant

Join us each month for a lively, laid‑back Happy Hour from 3-5 PM at Shadow’s Restaurant—a perfect chance to unwind, mingle, and enjoy food and drinks with fellow club members. Whether you’re catching up with friends or hoping to meet someone new, the atmosphere is warm, welcoming, and always buzzing with good energy. With drink specials, tasty small bites, and plenty of laughter to go around, this is the kind of gathering that turns members into friends and friends into family. Come raise a glass with us and make your month a little brighter.

Monthly Mixers

Monthly Mixers are one of the most popular and enjoyable ways to connect with fellow Snowbirds in our community. Whether you’re looking to meet new people or catch up with friends, these lively gatherings offer a fun and welcoming atmosphere for everyone. There is no cost to attend, and there is no need to register in advance—just show up. Most events have a theme (e.g. St Patrick’s Day) along with lighthearted activities such as Trivia or Name That Tune that make it easy to mingle and have fun. This is a BYOB event and we provide a few appetizers. Monthly Mixers are held on the Montecito Patio once a month, usually on a Friday, from 3–5pm. We’d love to see you there! Bring a friend and you may even win a Door Prize!

New Member Orientation

Whether you're new to Sun City Shadow Hills or simply new to the Snowbirds Club, our New Member Orientation is the perfect way to get acquainted with everything the club has to offer.

During this informal session, you'll meet fellow members, learn about our many activities and events, discover how to use the Snowbirds website, and find out how to make the most of your membership. We'll also answer questions about the club, introduce you to some of our volunteers, and help you feel right at home.

New Member Orientation is offered at the beginning of each season, with additional sessions scheduled as needed. If you're a new member—or even if you've been with us for a while and would like a refresher—we encourage you to join us. It's a friendly introduction to the people, programs, and community that make the Snowbirds Club Your Desert Home Away From Home.

Drop In Monday Breakfasts at Shadows Restaurant

The Drop-In Monday Breakfast is a relaxed and enjoyable way to start the week with fellow Snowbirds. Whether you're catching up with friends or meeting someone new, you'll always find good conversation, plenty of laughter, and a warm welcome around the breakfast table.

There is no registration required—just drop in and join us. Members purchase their own breakfast while enjoying a casual morning together, sharing stories, exchanging local tips, and simply enjoying each other's company.

The group meets at Shadows Restaurant every Monday at 9:00 a.m. Whether you join us every week or just from time to time, we'd love to have you with us. Enjoy the friendly spirit that makes the Snowbirds Club Your Desert Home Away From Home.

Thursday Women's Coffee

The Ladies Coffee program is an informal gathering aimed at bringing women together for socializing and making new friends.

Meetings are held every Thursday on the patio at the Montecito clubhouse at 9:30am. The group celebrates birthdays once a month with a cake. Attendance varies with the season, with 15 to 25 ladies participating regularly.

No registration is required; anyone interested is welcome to join. Newcomers are encouraged to introduce themselves to Theresa Lake to ensure a warm welcome into the group.

Tuesday Men's Coffee

The Tuesday Men's Coffee group is a friendly weekly gathering where Snowbird men meet to share practical advice, exchange local tips, discuss life back home, and enjoy plenty of laughter. Conversations range from home services and health care to restaurants, travel, sports, and everyday experiences. We steer clear of politics so everyone feels welcome, and members often leave having learned something new while enjoying great camaraderie.

The group meets every Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. on the Santa Rosa Patio (after our strategic relocation from Montecito due to the shocking absence of coffee!). Attendance typically ranges from 8–15 members from across Canada and the northern United States. Whether you have a question, a story to share, or simply enjoy good company over coffee, you're warmly invited to join us.

Happy Hour Off-Site

Several times during our Winter’s stay, our merry band of Snowbirds flocks to an offsite venue for Happy Hour. Similar format to the Shadows monthly HH, only in a remote location. In addition to meeting, making new friends during these outings, we  are introduced to new venues to possibly patronize. Registration is required, so please visit our Snowbirds website often to keep informed. We’ll see you there!?!? Cheers!

Presentations on Home Closure, Maintenance and Technology

This program is designed to support homeowners with the maintenance of their homes, particularly focusing on concerns relevant to desert environments and snowbirds. Each seminar features a PowerPoint presentation that lasts between one and two hours. After the presentation, there is a dedicated question-and-answer period. In total, attendees should expect to spend less than three hours at a seminar. Previous seminar materials are available in the Presentation Resources of our Members Area and have included topics like:

  • Preparing your home for the summer season

  • Maintaining irrigation systems

  • Managing and installing Wi-Fi systems in your home

  • Home security systems, including cameras

  • Leak detection

Typically, two seminars are held each season, in February and March. The topics for these seminars are determined based on feedback from surveys distributed in the fall. If there is sufficient interest and support from homeowners, with a minimum of ten participants, more seminars and additional topics may be offered.

Special Events - Offsite excursions!

Snowbirds offers a number of Special Events throughout the season.  The purpose of these events is to bring members together in a variety of additional social settings on or off-site.

Our annual group outings to one or more AHL Coachella Valley Firebirds hockey games at the Acrisure Arena are very popular. This past season, we held our first Championship Putting match on the Montecito Putting Course and we have decided to make this an Annual event.

We also visited the Palm Springs Air Museum for a tour and hosted a Canadian Snowbird Association presentation.  Each season we attempt to organize different experiences for our members. In the past we have attended a Polo Match, PS Winter League Baseball, Desert Theatre productions, hosted a Magic Show, etc.

Dates, times and details for events are advertised on our website, added to the club calendar and sent out by email as soon as the information is available.

Sunday Socials

The Sunday Social is a relaxed and enjoyable way to connect with fellow Snowbirds in our community. Whether you’re looking to meet new people or spend time with friends, these gatherings offer a warm and welcoming atmosphere for everyone.

The Sunday Social is held once a month on the Montecito Patio and runs from 4–6pm. Come join us for a perfect desert afternoon with friends!

Friday Bocce Ball

Have you played Bocce Ball before?  If not, we'll teach you!  Bocce is a social activity that is easy to learn and gets you moving without being too strenuous!  Our Snowbirds Club plays on Friday afternoon at the Montecito Bocce Courts behind the HOA building.

Please arrive by 12:45pm to sign in before we draw for teams and lane position. We start playing at 1 pm for about two hours.  Space is limited to twenty players.

Bring water, sunscreen, and a hat (if desired) as it is always sunny out there! Come out and have some fun!

Women's Lunch

The Ladies Lunch group has been running since the Snowbirds Club was initially formed.  We go to various restaurants that can accommodate larger groups.  We have been to Shields Date Farm and Cafe, Willows Resort, Boulevards, etc. etc.

These lunches not only provide us with a chance to eat delicious food, but also, and more importantly, chances to have fun with current friends while providing an opportunity to make new friends.

There is a saying that “Laughter is Great Medicine” and these lunches do provide us all with lots of great laughs with wonderful Snowbird women.

Thursday Karaoke and Open Mic

Whether you're ready to take the microphone or simply sit back and enjoy the entertainment, Thursday Karaoke & Open Mic Night is an evening of fun, laughter, and great company. Members and guests are invited to sing a favorite song, perform a musical number, tell a story, share a talent, or simply cheer on friends in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere.

The fun takes place once a month in the Montecito Clubhouse Ballroom from 4:00–7:00 p.m. There is no registration required—just drop in whenever you like. Members are encouraged to bring their own food and beverages (BYOB) and enjoy a casual evening of entertainment with fellow Snowbirds.

Whether you're performing or applauding from the audience, everyone is welcome. It's a wonderful way to spend an evening, discover local talent, and share a few laughs with friends old and new.
